I truly believe that it's possible to be successful in academia and live a fulfilled life at the same time.

Why? Because I'm doing it!

How?

I'm a master at time management and I set very strong boundaries boundaries.

This started when I was in grad school.

I learned very quickly that just being "smart" and working hard would lead me to grad school success.

There were some foundational elements that I needed to add to my life: time management, organization, prioritization, structure, and boundaries.

And that's exactly what I teach grad students like you!

When I started grad school, I had a lot going for me:

I’ve always been a super organized person who plans successfully.

I had done three undergraduate research projects and two grad school prep programs.

My mom got her PhD when I was 12 so I saw her go through the process and she was able to share her experiences with me.

And I still went into grad school not knowing exactly what to expect...but I had an idea and a good foundation.

However, I noticed that my fellow grad students did not have the same preparation and expectations as me.

And that's why I started The Academic Society. I became committed to teaching other grad students everything I knew about grad school and identified the exact skills and tools that made me successful.

I created an online community of grad students who desperately wanted to transition from researching tips about the grad school experience on their own to becoming #gradbosses who know exactly how to set themselves up for grad school success.

about the academic

Dr. Toyin Alli

I am a former McNair Scholar and I received my PhD in Mathematics from the University of Alabama. I now have my dream job as a full time Senior Lecturer at an R1 university. I started The Academic Society LLC to help graduate students succeed in grad school through time management, productivity, and self-care. I reach thousands of grad students through my digital programs, online social platforms, YouTube channel, and website.
